Neon Zoo, a US based production company, hired us to develop a series of motion-graphics to be featured in the Starz documentary along with interviews and 2D animated characters.
Finding a style that suited the story and blended with the existing footage and also the hand-painted animations (produced by another external team). It was our first project, made during the early days of the Covid 19 pandemic, so things were rather hectic.
FedUP got involved in the early phases of the post-production, to develop a series of mood-boards and graphic treatments for titles, lower thirds, graphs and phone UIs. We had to make sure we were stylistically aligned with two external teams, the character animators and the US based production team. We kept a tight production schedule and we’ve learned quite a few tricks that helped us dealing with a fully remote workflow.
As usual, we started with a tight pre-production, where we developed a series of designs and sketches. When the director and the client were happy with our artworks, we moved on with the animations.

We explored different looks, experimenting with paper textures, newspaper cuts, video glitches and a very minimalist and elegant design.

The broadcasting on Starz proved quite successful and the director was extremely happy with the result. We will be working with Elyse and her production team again in the near future, so stay tuned for more!
