Life and death, night and day, generations and cultures, man and nature. The mystery of existence is found in daily rituals. Our human relationship with the environment transforms us. Signals are repeated over time – are we able to feel them or have we lost the connection?
Castora Herz reclaims popular music from the annals of Iberian folklore, wrapping it in modern production that merges time past into the present.
The video for Herz’s piece ‘Pax im Viam’ aims to reflect this concept.
We were approached by director Cucho Ramirez to carry out some extra post-production work on a music video. Our main task was colour grading and compositing, which involved stabilisation, cleaning, rotoscoping and removing objects.
The tight deadline and the amount of work that needed to be done represented a huge challenge. On top of this, some assets required workarounds to be edited and colour corrected more efficiently.
After an initial meeting with the director, we established some art direction for the grading process and discussed a breakdown of the different assets that needed some compositing.
We were sharing wips with the director and getting feedback, implementing it to the final video.
The software we were using were Davinci Resolve and After Effects. As the music video was edited in Final Cut we had to rebuild the edit in Davinci with an EDL and a video reference, replacing the shots where we were adding VFX.
The final video with VFX has been exported from Davinci, we have then added the final titles in After Effects.

Compositing / Rotoscoping / Colour Grading
We created animated mattes that were tracked and merged seamlessly with the live action footage. Additionally, some rotoscoping was also required.
Adobe After Effects, Mocha, Photoshop, DaVinci Resolve
The client was extremely satisfied with the results, and pleasantly surprised with how the VFX we applied cleaned up and stabilized even the most problematic shots.
Postproduction and colour grading: FedUP Studio Lab (Alixe and Fred)
Cucho Ramirez (Filmaker)
The atmosphere and colour of this video was a challenge, and FedUP approached it with quality and professionalism. Their creative vision has contributed a lot from the beginning of the collaboration. They have been very supportive at all times. We always were confident that we were in good hands.
